Went to a wedding this past weekend at the Luxe on Sunset. Work has been going into overdrive so it was nice to take it easy for a day. It was a lovely ceremony and I got to buy a new dress so I can't complain. My favorite part are the sequins and detail work along the neck. I hate finding matching jewelry so this was the perfect solution for me. I NEED a black sequin blazer in my life asap.

This weekend was Micah and my 1 1/2 year anniversary (yes I am sappy and celebrate milestones of our relationship). We celebrated by going apple picking at Sky Meadow Farms. It was completely amazing getting out of the city and the farm was owned by the nicest old man! He had a bunch of dogs, all of which immediately did their business next to the car when we parked..just marking their territory I suppose. We went home with 7 pounds of Gala apples and a bunch of nice photos.

I know that there are a lot of diy aficionados among bloggers on the internets, but when was the last time you saw anyone make an entire coat from scratch (okay maybe Zana now that I think about it)? Even I don't have the motivation for that although sometimes I feel like I'd be better off making my own outerwear. I love these vintage patterns and although I've never watched Mad Men I feel like these would fit in perfectly with the show's wardrobe.

I've been feeling rather plain lately, and I guess that's apparent in my posts. But I soooo love Acne's new arrivals. They look so warm and cozy, if only it got colder here. I can't stop staring at that cashmere sweater dress...it's now my mission to find an affordable alternative.

Looking forward to the end of the day. Yesterday after work I stopped by the Farmer's Market on La Cienega and bought some heirloom tomatoes and I can't wait to make them for dinner tonight. (Forget diamonds, perfectly ripe tomato and cashmere are totally a girl's best friend.)

Hi friends, although it's been hotter than hot in LA, I can still lust over the APC fall/winter 2010 collection. I love how they parallel the looks between the men and women. The outerwear itself is what I expected, classic cuts with some unique tweaks. It's very much Thoreau-inspired no?

This past weekend I celebrated my friend's birthday at the Tudor House in Santa Monica. It was my first time having afternoon tea and everything was very yummy! I recommend a pot of the Typhoo for those who like a cup of strong black tea. They also had the most delicious raspberry jam, perfect with one of their fresh scones.

As the weather is getting warmer I've been thinking a lot about how to incorporate outerwear/outerwear inspired pieces in my wardrobe. Of course there are the classic standbys: denim jacket, linen blazer, light cardigan, etc but sometimes you just want one stand out piece rather than 2 to 3 layers of clothing. As much as I love a good coat, there's no way in hell I'm wearing one in 80+ degree weather.

I recently discovered Bodkin, and boy am I in love. Designers Samantha Pleet and Eviana Hartman have managed to create the most beautiful sustainable and eco-friendly Spring collection. I like to keep it super simple and subtle in the summer and this line fulfills my every desire to throw on a dress and parka and spend my days out in the sun. They even have Lykke Li modeling some of their Spring line...I can't wait to see what's to come in future seasons.

By no means am I an expert in menswear, but I wanted to offer my thoughts on something every guy should have in their closet - a nice fitting suit. No longer is an ill fitting suit excusable (that's what tailors are for anyway). What makes a great suit in my opinion? Why I'm glad you've asked. I go by the Tim Gunn rules of selecting a suit by silhouette, proportion, and fit. (Okay so he uses these rules for women mainly but I think it applies to both sexes.)

Silhouette
So you have the perfect fitted suit jacket...but your trousers are cut too loose. You don't want to look like this.

Proportion
A double breasted suit doesn't look good on everyone. On most it just ends up looking like wardrobe stolen from Penguin on the set of Batman. Consider all of your options for your body type: 1 button, 2 buttons, 3 buttons, etc.

Fit
Are the shoulders too big? Sleeves too long? Pant inseam too short/long? Then find a tailor or put it back.

Suits

Although pricey, Zegna has impeccable tailoring. Seriously, this is like the holy grail of suits.

Separate pieces can be tricky, but I love this effortless 1 button sport coat and matching trousers by John Varvatos.

I always save the best for last. Thick as Thieves makes custom (yes, CUSTOM) suits starting at only $433. You provide your measurements and choose the fabrics and in about a month..VOILA! Your own custom suit. Need I say more.

(Now if I can only convince my beau to buy a custom suit...)

This time around I grabbed an Elle and lo and behold they have the most beautiful editorial ALL centered around pieces from Burberry Prorsum. Needless to say I am completely smitten with everything. My version of that Minimarket look. The coat was one of those random finds (I mean I know what you're thinking...Guess??). What won me over is that it has a detachable hood AND a detachable bottom. Yes, the bottom half of the coat is removable to create a cropped jacket (swacket anyone?).

If you know me, you know that Pushing Daisies is my favorite show. Lee Pace + Anna Friel = heaven. Chuck's wardrobe is to DIE for...it's both whimsical and utterly creative. I'm not going to lie, being 5'2" with a short torso, it's not easy finding outerwear that doesn't look like it's eating me alive. I finally came to the conclusion this past week that with the right outfit, cropped jackets balance my figure and I don't end up looking like I'm swimming in fabric. Of course I found a cropped blazer WITH a shirttail. (I am full of WIN.)
